Silver Hip Flask, James Dixon & Sons. Sheffield 1906

An Unusually Shaped Silver Hip Flask of Irish provenance
The cushioned shaped hip flask with bayonet cap.  Inscription reading “Bequeathed by W. Wilson D.L. Cloghan 1906 to R.H Smyth, Clooney Park, Derry.”
Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1906, by James Dixon & Sons and with a design number on the underside 01397.
Weight 112.6grs.

D.L. denotes Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, of Cloghan, County Offaly, Ireland. Derry, also known as Londonderry, now in Northern Ireland, but at the time this flask was made it was pre-partition when Ireland was still united.

Condition: Good overall condition, the bayonet cap turns smoothly and holds the lid tightly closed.  There is a small dent to the cap, a larger dent to the right side of the body and other minor dents but these do not detract from a lovely little flask with a well engraved inscription.
