A Charming Georgian Black Silk Work of a Young Peasant Girl Collecting Corn
The scene is beautifully embroidered in monochrome tones depicting the girl gathering up sheaves of corn in her long skirts, standing below a tree with the corn field behind. In original oval frame. The original framers label on the reserve "Freeman Carver and Gilder, No 2 London Lane, Norwich' Norfolk.
English, circa 1810
Silk embroidered pictures of this type where typically the work of young ladies who would be taught the art of watercolour painting and embroidery which were considered to be suitable pass times for ladies of a certain social standing.

Condition: Sadly, there is some discolouration to the silk as well as a small area of loss to the sky, but this is in the background and does not affect the main subject matter of the picture. The front of the frame has been over painted and has a couple of surface cracks, the back of the frame has been relaid retaining the original label.
