Treen wool winder, or Swift
This sculptural object was used to wind wool from a ball, its base is turned from timber of the most wonderful form and colour, probably fruitwood. The 6 expanding scissor action arms are mounted on a pair of turned collars, the collars rise and fall on the brass pole to allow the mechanism to expand and contract.
British, circa 1870.
Condition: The mechanism is in good working order and the timber is all in excellent condition, you will note a couple of small chips to the rim of the finial.
