A pair of low French Louis XV style gilt bedroom armchairs
Fluted arms, foliate carving to the back, blue silk overstuffed seat and back, cabriole legs and brass castors
French, circa 1870.
Condition: The proportions of these chairs make them unusual, low with wide seats and low backs. The gilding is original and has worn on the arms and backs to expose the base coats in maroon and white, the effect that can only be achieved through years of use. The legs have chips to the gilding to expose the carved timber in places. The blue silk is marked and stained, but the springs and upholstery are in good shape so they are ready to recover.
